Hollyoaks airs unexpected James twist as Rex hides a secret
A mysterious phone call takes place.
Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks has hinted James Nightingale may still be alive in the latest episode.
The solicitor had seemingly been killed off before the soap’s recent time jump after being blown up by a car bomb alongside his husband Ste Hay. Rex Gallagher had tried to warn the couple against getting in the car but was too late.
Ste survived the explosive attack — though he spent one year in a coma — and now it seems that James may not have been killed off either.
Wednesday’s (October 16) episode saw Rex and Ste wrapped up in Lucas Hay’s split from boyfriend Dillon Ray, though they were involved in a few other curious scenes as well.
After getting slugged by an angry Lucas, Rex was shown taking a secretive call where he told the other person: “I thought I said I’d call you if there were any updates.”
Rex quickly ended the call as Ste approached. Ste apologised on behalf of his son, with Rex joking that being with him “is never dull”.
Back at home, Rex tried to make peace with Lucas by suggesting Dillon would “come back around” after the teens’ sudden break-up.
The soap later cut back to Rex taking another secret phone call where he hinted he’d been lying to Ste about the death of his late husband.
“So far, he’s accepted everything I’ve told him. As far as Ste’s concerned, James Nightingale is dead and buried,” Rex told the call. “Why tell him any different?”
Rex then hung up and walked away, having no idea that Ste heard what he’d said. This discovery will lead to more shocking scenes to come, as Ste questions whether James could still be alive.
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
