Angel Reese tells of horrific Caitlin Clark insult she received from fan after snubbing autograph
Angel Reese has been one of the breakout stars of the WNBA, but has been criticised for her off-court actions and compared to fellow rookie Caitlin Clark
Angel Reese spoke out about the awful comment one fan made comparing her to Caitlin Clark, following an incident where Reese couldn’t sign an autograph.
Reese has made quite a splash in the WNBA season, catching people’s attention both on the court and through her off-the-court actions. Hailing from Louisiana State University, Reese was picked seventh by the Chicago Sky for the 2024 season.
Although Reese had a stellar rookie season, she was overshadowed by Indiana Fever’s Clark, who scooped up the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, nabbing all but one of the 67 votes.
The remarkable performances by both stars have led to harsh comparisons, with Reese revealing on her Unapologetically Angel podcast that a fan criticized her after not getting an autograph by saying: “That white girl is better than you,” reports the Express.
Reflecting on the encounter, Reese said: “Sometimes I [can] be busy, like I can’t sign everything. One man was like, ‘That’s why you [did] not [get] Rookie of the Year. And that white girl is better than you. I’m like ok, you wanted me to sign your thing and now you don’t like me no more?.”
These comments provide a glimpse into the scrutiny that Reese has faced during her maiden professional season. But it’s not the first time Reese has found herself being compared to Clark, often facing criticism for what some perceive as ostentatious behaviour off the court, such as launching a podcast mid-season and doing fashion shoots.
US broadcaster Joe Budden recently made some candid comments about Angel Reese, saying: “I’ve seen Angel Reese wildin’ out… Angel Reese won’t sit her f—-in’ a– down… She won’t go sit down somewhere for a second. There’s value in it.”
He clarified that his remarks weren’t intended to be misogynistic, stating: “This is going to sound like I’m telling women what to do. But I ain’t.”
Budden also suggested that Reese’s team is advising her to make frequent public appearances, drawing a comparison with another athlete, Caitlin Clark. Meanwhile, US-based radio personality Jelly Santos criticised Reese’s fashion choices, saying: “Angel Reese acting like a girl with a nice body that don’t know what to do with it.”
Santos felt that Reese’s outfits were detrimental to her image, commenting: “These outfits cheapen her brand. Like she went on some other show and the outfit was so cheap and stupid. Like girl get it together man.”
Reese’s rookie season in the WNBA was unfortunately cut short due to a wrist injury, and her team, the Chicago Sky, failed to make the playoffs, finishing 10th overall.
