Throughout history, archaeological discoveries have always played an important role in deciphering the mysteries of the past and providing new insights into ancient civilizations.

However, not all discoveries can be explained easily. Many times, scientists have been faced with shocking discoveries that challenge long-standing theories and concepts about human history.

One of the most astonishing recent discoveries is the mummy of a nearly 900-year-old princess at the Zelen Yar site, a remote area near the Arctic Circle, Russia. The mummy was almost perfectly preserved, lying in a bronze coffin lined with animal skins, and buried under the permafrost for centuries.

What is particularly remarkable is that this princess was the only woman in the burial area with more than 30 male graves around.

The mummy’s head is so well preserved that its hair, teeth and eyelids are still intact. Although the body is not as intact as the head, it still provides valuable information about the lives of ancient people. Scientists estimate that the princess lived in the 12th century, belonging to a hunting and fishing civilization in this icy land.

What is even more surprising are the signs that the princess had connections with ancient Persian civilization. One of the artifacts found at the site is a bronze bowl made in Persia, a testament to the cultural exchange between ancient civilizations.

According to archaeologist Alexander Gusev of the Russian Arctic Research Center, the discovery has completely changed previous perceptions about the Zelen Yar burial site.

Previously, it was thought that only men were buried here, but the appearance of female mummies has raised many new questions about the role and position of women in ancient society.

Not only does this discovery open up new understandings about this site, it also highlights the complexity and diversity of ancient societies in the Arctic. It is a testament to the fact that human history still has many mysteries waiting to be discovered.
