EastEnders stars Samantha Womack and Rita Simons, were seen enjoying a wild and fun night out in London’s West End last night.
The actresses, who once shared the screen as sisters Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell on the iconic BBC soap, were spotted sharing a lighthearted moment when Samantha licked Rita on the mouth during an evening of laughter and celebration. The pair, who were axed from EastEnders in 2017, have stayed close since their time on the show.
The two actresses were in high spirits as they attended The Last Laugh theatre show in the heart of London. They were joined by Shane Richie, another former EastEnders star, who is well-known for his portrayal of Alfie Moon on the show.
Shane, like Samantha and Rita, shares a long-standing friendship with both of them, having worked alongside them in the soap.
The EastEnders stars gathered to support former cast member Bob Golding, who played Colin, a character with a significant storyline on the show. Bob was performing in The Last Laugh, and his former co-stars attended to cheer him on and enjoy a night out together.
Back in 2023, Samantha opened up about a possible return to EastEnders – after Rita said the Mitchell sisters could be back. Rita who was hopeful for a return said: “It is up to the viewers how far they are willing to accept whether she is alive or not.
EastEnders belongs to the public and it is up to them to decide,” she explained to The Sun, “Now is the time to say I played that scene as if I was holding my breath. Go back and watch it online and you will see next to nothing of me at all. I also refused to do the coffin scene.
I was asked directly to my face and I refused point blank. It was really difficult because I was never a difficult actress or a diva but I had to do this thing to have any chance to protect me because I cared about Roxy. I didn’t let anyone film me jump in the pool, so no one saw me drown.”
Rita previously made a return to the soap in huge scenes where she appeared in a dream-like state as her daughter Amy struggled.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain at the time, Samantha was asked if she’d be up for a return as Ronnie. “Last week, Rita Simons said there could possibly be a comeback on the Square, what do you say?” host Susanna Reid asked.
Samantha replied: “I love her positivity. We were seen at the end of the episode floating quite lifelessly in the pool but I love her positivity and I’m definitely going to watch it. I was in Spain and my VPN wasn’t working but I really want to watch it.”
