Love Is Blind Season 8

‘We can do our own thing’: ‘Love Is Blind’ couple engaged after Season 8 elimination

"Love Is Blind" Season 8 stars Kylie Schuelke and Brian Sumption may mot have been it to the finale but they have gotten engaged, Netflix confirmed. Now they say: 'We get to write our own story.'

Sometimes hopeful singles actually do find love on reality dating shows but not always necessarily on camera.

“Love Is Blind” stars Kylie Schuelke and Brian Sumption are engaged despite not making it to the Season 8 finale, Netflix confirmed. The couple told the streamer that though their on-camera romance ended early, the two have forged something far too special for TV.

“It felt almost like a weight off our shoulders,” Sumption told Netflix. “Now we can do our own thing and figure out our lives on our own.”

The soon-to-be newlyweds unfortunately did not make the next phase of the series where they head to Honduras. Schuelke expressed disappointment and confusion as to why producers decided their romance wouldn’t pan out because “obviously it did.” She said the pair refused to let their TV fate deter their real-life future together.

“Ultimately, we went on ‘Love Is Blind’ to find love — and we did just that,” Schuelke said. “The experiment worked for us, and now we get to write our own story.”

South Dakota pair hit it off on first blind pod date

Netflix reported the couple went into “Love Is Blind” with the goal of finding something serious including Schuelke, a medical student who never heard of the dating show, where contestants date in pods without knowing what their date looks like, until she signed up.

Sumption, a wine bar owner, knew right after their first pod date that he had something serious with his now fiancée after the two bonded over growing up in small towns.

“The connection felt really effortless. We had a very similar sense of humor and everything really flowed naturally,” he said. “After we aligned on the important aspects of life, we didn’t really take things too seriously and just had fun together.”

“We basically both [grew up] in the middle of nowhere, South Dakota, and come from farming families,” Schuelke said. “It would’ve taken some catastrophe for us not to get out of there together.”

When the pair finally laid eyes on each other it was quite literally love at first sight.

“The lights were so bright, so I couldn’t see anything at first, but as we got closer, I was like, ‘Oh, he’s cute.’ For some reason, I was keeping my expectations low,” Schuelke said.
