Caitlin Clark Lands New Nickname Before WNBA Season

After what she did following an Indiana Pacers game.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever dominated Brazil’s national team in a friendly competition at her former stomping grounds, Iowa’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena, in the team’s preseason finale last weekend.

During the 108-44 victory, her father, Brent, became a significant storyline after he called out the WNBA’s officiating from her rookie season – in which she took home Rookie of the Year honors.

“Well, I think there’s a lot of room for improvement there, I think particularly in the officiating. I’ve kind of noticed a little bit of a difference [on Sunday], it looks like they’re really officiating the game like it should be officiated,” he said plainly. “If you make the game more fluid, people are going to like the product even more than it is right now.”

Just like her dad, Clark is a student of the game and that was evident this week when she made headlines following Sunday night’s Indiana Pacers 129-109 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Caitlin Clark Lands New Nickname Before WNBA Season

She called into the Pacers radio postgame show with Eddie White and Pacers co-owner Stephen Simon to say, “the first half was probably the best offensive half I have ever seen in all of basketball it was fun … I felt honestly just bad for the Cavs at one point.”

Her name on the call was listed as “Caitlin from downtown,” both a nod to her close proximity to the Pacers and her penchant for long-range shots. Immediately after her call, “Caitlin from downtown” started trending on social media.

“I am a fan of Caitlin from downtown,” one person said.

“She called in as ‘Caitlin from Downtown’. If she called in on the regular listener line, that makes it even better,” added another.

“mysterious fan ‘caitlin from downtown’ said she felt bad for the cavs at one point,” offered a third.

Clark and the Fever kick off their season on May 17 against the Chicago Sky.
