**Connor McCaffrey lands major coaching job after impressing Indiana Pacers**
**Connor McCaffrey**, Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend, is about to start a new chapter in his coaching career at **Butler University**. McCaffrey, 26, was just named head coach at Butler after a stint as an assistant coach at the **Indiana Pacers**. It’s his first coaching job since ending his basketball career at the **University of Iowa**, where he played six seasons and made 166 total appearances.
While at Iowa, McCaffrey averaged 4.5 points and 3.2 assists per game. After Caitlin Clark was selected first overall in the WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever earlier this year, McCaffrey moved to Indiana to join the Pacers as an assistant coach. His transfer from the Pacers to Butler was first reported by AEM Blasy of the **Indianapolis Star**, and was also confirmed by reporters Scott Agnes of the **Fieldhouse Files** and David Iold of **247 Sports**.
McCaffrey will join Butler’s coaching staff as his younger brother, Patrick, will transfer from Iowa to play for the Bulldogs. Their third brother, Jack, is also expected to join the program next year. The McCaffrey family is well-known for its basketball heritage, with Connor’s father, Fran, currently the head coach of the men’s basketball team at Iowa.
McCaffrey will replace former NBA star Greg Oden on Butler’s coaching staff. Oden was a standout high school basketball player in Indiana and played in the NBA after leaving Ohio State, where he impressed with his ball skills.
Current Butler coach Thad Matta is entering his third season with a 14-18 record in his first year and 18-15 last season.
Currently, Caitlin Clark and the **Indiana Fever** are sixth in the WNBA standings with a 19-19 record and two games remaining in the regular season. Clark, a former Iowa star, is a front-runner for Rookie of the Year.
McCaffrey and Clark began dating in April 2023 and went public with their relationship on Instagram that August, highlighting their personal and professional relationship in the basketball community.
