NASA announced that the Voyager 1 probe — humanity’s most distant object in space — has begun sending useful information back to Earth after months of transmitting meaningless data.
Now 14 billion miles from Earth, Voyager 1, which launched in 1977 with a processor weaker than a microwave oven, continues to operate far beyond its original mission.
Scientists have recently detected unusual signals in the Voyager data. Some experts believe that these signals contain sequences of prime numbers, variations of cosmological constants, and a three-dimensional spiral structure encoded in the data.
Microsoft, using its newly launched Myerana 1 quantum processor, analyzed these signals and discovered mathematical patterns too precise to be random.
