Former Hollyoaks star admits it’s ‘hard to deal’ with being recognised
Former Hollyoaks star Alfie Browne-Sykes has revealed it has been hard to deal with the fame after appearing on the soap.
The actor played Jason Roscoe on the Channel 4 soap between 2013 and 2016, before the character departed for Australia.
Appearing on the Just Real podcast with Joseph James, Alfie revealed that he had taken up a day job as a roofer but found it hard to deal with being recognised.
“Going to work every day, working on people’s roofs and them recognising you from Hollyoaks is a hard thing to deal with at first – especially when they make comments and don’t realise what they are saying to you,” he said (via OK! Magazine).
Following his departure from the soap, Alfie worked on stage and the smaller screen, and revealed he was looking to get back into acting following a period away.
“I’m just trying to crack on with my acting, trying to pursue that career,” he said. “It’s a lot tougher than people think. It’s a lot of waiting for the right opportunities to pop, especially with all the shit at the minute.”
On the soap currently, Juliet Nightingale and Peri Lomax have been getting close in the wake of the former’s cancer diagnosis, with the pair taking a special trip to Brighton to create new memories.
Ruby O’Donnell recently spoke about the couple’s visit to the seaside, saying they wanted to find positivity amidst the sadness.
“We wanted to show the highs and lows of struggling with cancer, and to find the positive moments among the sadness of it all,” she said. “It injects some happiness and energy into an upsetting plot – there are some big scenes, but it’s mostly about Juliet and Peri having fun.”
Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
