Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Tuesday’s episode (6 May), which is available to watch now on streaming service Channel 4 and hasn’t yet aired on TV.
Hollyoaks’ Joel Dexter has been forced to reveal a shameful secret, after a sudden tragedy involving his wife Leela.
This week, killer Jez discovered that Tommy had recorded their therapy sessions, including his confession to a string of murders while under hypnosis.
Tommy explained that the recording was scheduled to be sent to the police and Sienna, unless Jez followed his orders.
In today’s episode, Jez told his mum Martha that he was going to kill Leela, to stop Tommy from exposing his crimes – having been given a deadline of the end of the day.
Meanwhile, Leela offered her support to Cleo, who served her a smoothie as she was covering a shift in Casa McQueen.
Jez followed Leela home, and when she went upstairs, he snuck inside and poisoned her smoothie with the same substance that was used to drug Sienna.
Later, Joel was horrified to find his wife unresponsive and immediately called an ambulance.
Tommy headed over to comfort Joel, assuming that Leela was dead. But she regained consciousness as she was stretchered into an ambulance – and Tommy was furious with Jez, who hadn’t completed his mission.
As Joel stood by Leela’s bedside in hospital, the police arrived and told Leela that she was drugged with the same substance as Sienna. However, as a lot more was found in Leela’s system, they believed that the intention was to kill her.
Leela reeled from the news that someone wanted her dead, and when it was confirmed that toxins were found in the smoothie, she explained that Cleo gave it to her.
When the detective started asking about why Cleo might want to kill her, Leela couldn’t give a reason – but Joel realised that there was a motive.
“Me and Cleo, we slept together,” he said, exposing a secret he thought would never be revealed. “Leela, I’m sorry.”
How will Leela react to this devastating news, and is this enough to successfully frame Cleo for attempted murder?
