Love Is Blind Season 8

Sara Carton From ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 8 Raised the Right Questions

Love Is Blind is usually the kind of show where viewers see contestants bonding over surface-level things like their favorite movie or shared trauma. Love Is Blind Season 8 contestant Sara Carton skipped the small talk and dived right into asking her connection, Ben Mezzenga, all the right questions. Sara questioned Ben’s religious beliefs and his views on the LGBTQ+ community. This was especially important to Sara since her sister is a lesbian. Sara also questioned where he stands on politics and social issues like the Black Lives Matter movement.

When Ben feigned ignorance over these topics and confessed he doesn’t vote, Sara pulled back and retrospected on whether this was something she could overlook. Ben articulated that he doesn’t know how to share his views in the smartest manner but would show Sara that he could change those things about himself through actions, not words. While it remains to be seen whether the duo will make it to the altar, the important thing here is that Sara’s questions are an eye-opener to what must be considered a priority in a relationship and to what extent these aspects can be overlooked for the sake of love.

Feigning Ignorance on Socio-Political Issues Is a Red Flag

Sara’s questions on Love Is Blind Season 8 definitely seemed to throw Ben off his game. Ben earned respect in Sara’s eyes when he expressed his support for the LGBTQ+ community despite his Christian upbringing.

However, he lost a huge chunk of aura points when he feigned ignorance over socio-political issues like the Black Lives Matter movement when Sara asked him about his views. Things got progressively worse for Ben when he confessed to his connection that he doesn’t vote.

In the current world scenario, “I just kind of keep out of it” is an unacceptable and ignorant response. Citizens who dwell in society need to be conscious of the events and issues that directly and indirectly affect those around them. Not having an opinion on these topics is as good as having a controversial view — if not worse. Ben’s reaction and lack of awareness were a preview of red flags that Sara would need to look out for in the future.

Ending a Connection Due To Differing Socio-Political Views Is Justified

Despite her strong connection with Ben, his evident ignorance was a major turn-off for Sara. She had even schooled him on how having an opinion and caring about the social and political dynamic around them is valuable and important.

The interaction between the duo called into question if ending a connection or relationship due to differing or lack of socio-political views is justified. The answer is yes; it’s entirely justified to end a romantic pursuit due to opposing views on world issues, especially when dating with the intention of marriage.

Ben’s non-answer made him seem like a conservative man trying to save face, which is not necessarily the kind of partner that aligns with Sara’s strong beliefs. An individual’s political views tend to make or break a relationship, as seen before with Marissa Gorge and Ramses Prashad on Love Is Blind Season 7.

‘Love Is Blind’ Contestants Need To Take Inspiration From Sara Carton’s Questions

The interaction between Sara and Ben was one of the most refreshing and real conversations across eight seasons of the popular Netflix reality show. Usually, when hot-button topics are broached on the show, contestants tend to walk on eggshells and not own up to their beliefs.

It was a breath of fresh air to watch Sara eviscerate Ben for his apathetic approach to politics and reaffirm that it wasn’t her job to educate him on why it was important. Sara is incredibly headstrong about her progressive views and believes that being socially conscious is a requirement and not just an option for a potential partner.

Love Is Blind contestants need to learn from Sara and re-think the quality and content of the interactions they have with their dates on the show. Ben evidently sensed Sara pull back after his ignorant responses.

Out of fear of losing her, he reassured her that he would make a conscious effort to change his “ignorance is bliss” attitude. For the time being, the duo proceeded to get engaged on Love Is Blind, but if Ben doesn’t manage to pull his weight by proving that he can evolve to be more socially aware, it wouldn’t be surprising if Sara dumps him later into the season.

Love Is Blind is streaming on Netflix in the U.S. with new episodes every Friday.
