Love Is Blind Season 8

Is Joey Leveille From ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 8 Right About Monica Danús’ Sister?

Things were going great for Monica Danús and Joey Leveille since they met in the pods on Love Is Blind Season 8. They were the first couple to get engaged and have had an easy, breezy relationship right from the start.

They matched each other’s chaotic energy and even had deep and meaningful conversations. The duo also arguably had one of the best face reveals across all eight seasons of the show. Monica and Joey were a shoo-in to saying “I do” at the altar. That is until Monica’s sister came into the picture.

In the latest batch of episodes of the popular Netflix dating show, Joey meets Monica’s family for the first time. He seems to blend right in with the chaotic bunch and even wholeheartedly joins in on the family fun. Everything seems to be going great until Monica’s sister pulls her aside for a one-on-one conversation.

Her sister expresses that she thinks Joey’s putting up a face and not being genuine. If she’s right, it would be concerning, but it’s hard to ignore that Monica’s sister is likely a bit jealous of her for being the first to get married, which Joey points out when Monica speaks to him about it.

Joey Leveille and Monica Danús Match Each Other’s Energy

Viewers were enraged when Monica’s sister started sparking concern about Joey having red flags. A large part of this has to do with the fact that the duo have had one of the most unproblematic dynamics. They’re both extroverted and chaotic personalities who match each other’s freak. In fact, they got along so well that it felt meant to be when they got engaged in the blink of an eye.

Monica and Joey also had a fun jam session while in the pods, and their face reveal was uniquely adorable. When the engaged duo jetted off for the romantic getaway, their physical connection matched their emotional one, and the sparks were bouncing off the walls. Simply put, they were the Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton-esque couple of the season (if you know, you know).

At first glance, Monica and Joey’s relationship may have seemed quite surface-level due to their jovial dynamic. However, as the episodes progress, the two peel their emotional layers off like onion peels. Joey opens up about his OCD and how he’s worked on himself to be ready for a long-term commitment. They were the one couple who discussed lifestyle and cleanliness — which is an often overlooked but essential factor when assessing compatibility.

Though Monica’s sister never hid her dislike for Joey, he hit the nail on the head by asking Monica the right questions regarding the possible reason why her sister would feel that way. Instead of getting all up in her face and letting her sister’s dislike rile up his ego, Joey takes a step back to retrospect on the situation and has a mature conversation with Monica to address the issue.

Monica Danús’ Sister Is Jealous of Her

Joey points out that there is a distinct possibility that Monica’s sister is jealous of her. This could be true since she was hostile and skeptical from the get-go. She also gaslights Monica about Joey not being her typical type and how she could do way better appearance-wise — which goes against the whole point of participating in the experiment.

Moreover, her sister seems vexed that Monica was getting married before her. Monica’s sister explicitly states that it should be her walking down the aisle first because she’s the older sibling, pointing out that she’s been in a long-term relationship.

To make matters infinitely worse, she passes poor judgments on Joey after having just met him for an hour. It’s clear that some looming sibling jealousy could jeopardize the sunshine and rainbows in Monica and Joey’s healthy dynamic.

What’s mildly frustrating is that Joey joined in on his fiancee’s family’s quirky music tradition and even made a solid first impression with her parents. While it remains to be seen if any of Monica’s sister’s views on Joey’s character turn out to be true, as of now, it can be written off as pure jealousy and nothing more.

Love Is Blind is streaming on Netflix in the U.S.
