Angel Reese has been blasted for her off-court antics with the WNBA star told to follow Caitlin Clark’s lead.
Reese and Clark have dominated the WNBA headlines during their rookie year, with the pair establishing themselves as the two most famous faces in the league.
However, their off-court personas have been markedly different – something Chicago Sky star Reese has been criticised for.
The 22-year-old launched her own podcast ‘Unapologetically Angel’ before the end of her rookie year and has used the platform to – intentionally or unintentionally – stir controversy.
Reese’s first episode saw her speak out about fans of Clark, claiming they’d sent her death threats, as well as making fake AI images that were sent to her family.
While in her most recent release, Reese interviewed the ex-girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce – a move that sparked backlash from fans of the NFL ace’s new partner, Taylor Swift
As a result, American broadcaster Joe Budden has urged Reese to tone down the off-court antics, saying: “I’ve seen Angel Reese wildin’ out… Angel Reese won’t sit her f—-in’ a– down… She won’t go sit down somewhere for a second. There’s value in it.
“This is going to sound like I’m telling women what to do. But I ain’t.”
Caitlin Clark won the WBNA’s Rookie of the Year award in her debut season.
Keen to avoid any race comparisons, Budden continued: “Whoever [Reese] got is telling her to go pop up everywhere. That’s not what Caitlin Clark’s people are saying, not to make it racial… We just on some star rookie s— now.”
But it appears Reese is taking flack from all sides, with radio personality Jelly Santos recently taking to social media to criticise her fashion sense.
Commenting to her 32,000 followers on X, Santos said: “Angel Reese acting like a girl with a nice body that don’t know what to do with it.
“These outfits cheapen her brand. Like she went on some other show and the outfit was so cheap and stupid. Like girl get it together man.”
Before adding in the replies: “But that shot in the lingerie on the floor gives me sad vibes. Cuz why you doing this at this time in your career?”
Not one to stay quiet, Reese responded with: “I thought the brand was “cheapened”…. CRY ABOUT IT.”
Reese’s debut year in the WNBA was forced to end early after she picked up a wrist injury in September.
But it was Clark who took home the Rookie of the Year award, sweeping all but one vote after a dominant first professional season.
