Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever might be playing under a new coach in the 2025 WNBA season. They currently have Christie Sides as their coach, but that might not be the case when the new season begins.
Stephanie White’s coaching future is uncertain after the Connecticut Sun lost in the second round of the 2024 playoffs against the Minnesota Lynx. But according to Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times, there are three teams interested in acquiring her services, including Clark’s Fever.
“Stephanie White has been in talks with multiple teams regarding her future. The three teams remaining in [the] picture at this point are the Sky, Fever, and Sun according to multiple league sources,” Costabile posted on X.
THE LATEST: Stephanie White has been in talks with multiple teams regarding her future. The three teams remaining in picture at this point are the Sky, Fever and Sun according to multiple league sources.
After the Chicago Sky dismissed Teresa Weatherspoon by the end of the season when they lost their playoff berth to the Atlanta Dream, White’s name was floated among the candidates to take her place.
Caitlin Clark had a remarkable rookie season playing under Sides, but the Fever’s front office is reportedly looking to go all in with their star player in her sophomore season. The Fever franchise has been mentioned as an option for White, who played for the team from 2000 to 2004.
Caitlin Clark could earn more in the Unrivaled league
The “Unrivaled” women’s three-on-three basketball league is premiering in January next year, and is hoping to sign Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. Because of her impressive rookie season in the WNBA, the league founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier is determined to sign her before their inaugural season starts.
Clark earned $76,535 in her first season in the WNBA. Over her first four seasons in the league, the former Iowa Hawkeye is expected to earn $338,056. Unrivaled is luring her into accepting a $1 million contract that would allow her to earn the same amount in just less than three months.
Front Office Sports’ Michael McCarthy claimed on Tuesday that the three-on-three league is willing to sign Clark on a deal similar to what Inter Miami offered Lionel Messi to join Major League Soccer. Per McCarthy’s report, Unrivaled is prepared to provide Clark stock, income share, and more than $1 million just so her presence in the league could help them boost their ticket sales and viewership.
Unrivaled promises their players to “have the highest salaries in professional women’s sports league history.” Players will earn based on a sliding scale—the more famous the player is, the more she will earn.
