Pace and passing’: Lynx coach reveals Caitlin Clark’s biggest assets for Indiana Fever

Caitlin Clark's pace and passing make her exceptional, says Cheryl Reeve

Caitlin Clark and Maya Moore will be in Target Center on Saturday night. Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve wishes one of them was playing for her.

Clark and the Indiana Fever are visiting the Lynx in WNBA action. Moore, one of Minnesota’s all-time best players, is having her No. 23 jersey retired. Clark has said Moore was her favorite player growing up, and is excited to see her idol get honored.

Moore played eight years, averaging 18.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. She stopped playing in 2018 at age 29 (she officially retired last year) to address social justice issues.

Reeve discussed Clark’s value to the Fever − and the WNBA − pregame.

Part of the plan:Lin Dunn had 3-year plan to fix Fever. Her faith in a first-time head coach is paying off.

“The best thing she does that young players don’t do is, she plays with incredible pace. Pace will get you really, really far,” Reeve said. “Pace and passing are her greatest things. I know the sexier part is the logo 3, but pace and passing is what makes her exceptional, in my mind.”

“The importance to the W; you’re all standing here. It’s not just for my words.

“She became a road show (in college). I don’t remember seeing that. You want a player and a league that can transcend some of these spaces. … Caitlin Clark is someone who has given us that.”

Reeve wasn’t in the mood to discuss Clark when the Fever last visited Minnesota shortly before the Olympic break. Clark had been left off Team USA, prompting some backlash. The US still won the gold medal.
