Caitlin Clark may have had a stellar debut season with Indiana Fever, but one NBA legend has suggested that she isn’t too “formidable”.

The 22-year-old joined the Fever as the first overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft in May, following an outstanding collegiate career with Iowa and securing gold at various FIBA events at under-19 and under-16 levels. She was crowned the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year after a sensational first season in Indiana, shattering several longstanding records while leading the team to their first playoff appearance since 2016.

Despite only being a professional for one season, Clyde Frazier recently quipped that Clark hasn’t impressed him as much as she has others. Assessing Clark as she made a courtside appearance during the New York Knicks’ recent 132-121 defeat to Indiana, Mr Cool said: “She doesn’t look that formidable. I could stop her.”

Mike Breen, who was the play-by-play commentator for the night chuckled before he retorted: “Just put a ball in her hand, she is spectacular to watch.” Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer Frazier had a distinguished career with the New York Knicks from 1967 to 1977, earning seven NBA All-Star awards and having his number 10 jersey retired after aiding the team to two Championships in 1970 and 1973 respectively.

The duo of titles are the only NBA Championships that the Knicks have ever clinched in their history. The point guard then transferred to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1977, where he spent a mere three seasons and participated in 66 games before hanging up his boots due to recurring foot injuries.

Clark bagged 66 out of the total 67 votes to be crowned the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year this season – with the remaining vote going to Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese – after shattering numerous records and steering the Fever into an exhilarating year on the courts. The prodigy set 11 records in all, including the highest assists for a single season (337) and the most assists in a single match (19).

The WNBA sensation was seen courtside at the Pacers vs Knicks match over the weekend, accompanied by her boyfriend Connor McCaffery – a former team assistant with Indiana who is currently employed as a basketball coach at Butler University. The couple first crossed paths while studying at the University of Iowa, with McCaffery graduating last May with a bachelor’s degrees in finance and political science.

Much like Clark, McCaffery also played basketball during his college years, joining as a four-star recruit in 2017 – earning a slew of prestigious accolades during his playing career. He was bestowed with the title of a five-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a two-time Academic All-District First Teamer and an NABC Honors Court Honoree, according to reports.
