Caitlin Clark ‘looked really soft’ during ankle injury scare
Caitlin Clark cracked a joke at her own expense after seeing the replay of when she tweaked her ankle during the first half of the Fever’s 84-79 win over the Dream on Monday night.
The Fever rookie turned her ankle while playing defense in the first quarter — and fell to the floor and grabbed her ankle as she writhed in pain.
“I saw the replay, and I look really soft,” Clark said, which drew laughs from Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell and head coach Christie Sides. “It wasn’t that bad of a turn, but it hurt.
“So. sometimes you just need to give yourself a second. If you’ve ever turned your ankle, it just kind of stings for a little bit, so I was good.”
Clark walked under her own power to the bench and was looked at by the training staff.
The star rookie was seen sitting with her shoe off and ankle taped.
Clark remained on the bench for the remainder of the first quarter following her injury scare, and then returned to action to start the second quarter.
She finished with 19 points, seven assists and seven rebounds.
Her four 3-pointers tied the rookie record of 85 by the Dream’s Rhyn Howard in 2022.
Mitchell led the Fever in scoring with 29 points.
Aliyah Boston, the Fever’s first overall pick in 2023, recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.
The victory over Atlanta gave Fever their third win in four games since the break while their WNBA playoff push continues.
The Fever (14-16) face the Sun (22-7) at home on Wednesday.
