Caitlin Clark-led Indiana Fever suffered an 86-75 defeat in a marquee 2024 WNBA regular-season matchup against defending champion Las Vegas Aces at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Wednesday. Clark opened the game with a precise pass to Lexie Hull in the corner, who drained an open three-pointer to extend her hot shooting streak.

Indiana jumped to a quick 5-0 lead, prompting Becky Hammon to call an early timeout. Clark missed her first shot attempt, which came one-and-a-half minutes after tip-off.

The former Iowa standout scored her first basket with 4:54 left in the first quarter, completing a layup while drawing a foul. The rookie then successfully converted the free throw to complete the three-point play.

The 22-year-old had a tough time scoring in the first quarter, hitting just 1-of-6 from the field and missing both of her three-point attempts. However, the rookie excelled in playmaking, dishing out three assists in 7:55 minutes of action.

Clark opened the second quarter by sinking her first three-pointer of the game. The rookie was visibly energized after hitting the deep shot, cutting the Fever’s deficit to just four points.

The rookie’s second three-point attempt of the quarter resulted in an air ball. The one-time WNBA All-Star made a brilliant pass to Aliyah Boston in the paint, leading to two points for the home team.

Clark finished the first half with eight points, shooting 3-of-11 from the field and 1-of-5 from three-point range. The rookie also added three assists and one rebound to her stat line.

Caitlin Clark opened the second half with a brilliant backdoor pass to Kelsey Mitchell, who finished the layup while drawing a foul. The Fever rookie struggled to get into a scoring groove, missing her first two shot attempts, including one from beyond the arc.

The former Iowa standout scored her first basket of the second half with 4:43 left in the third quarter, hitting a midrange jumper while drawing a foul. The rookie completed the three-point play by sinking the free throw.

The 22-year-old scored four points in the quarter, including two from free throws. Clark went 1-of-5 from the field and contributed an assist and a rebound to her stat line.

Clark’s first basket of the fourth quarter came on a driving layup, pushing her total to 14 points. However, her shooting struggles persisted, and the rookie appeared visibly frustrated after missing her eighth attempted three-pointer of the night.

Ultimately, Clark endured one of the toughest shooting performances of her career, missing nine out of her 10 attempts from beyond the arc.
