The selection committee's decision to omit Caitlin Clark from Team USA's roster for the Paris Olympics proved controversial and one young fan made their feelings known about the call

Japan basketball fan taunts Team USA with Caitlin Clark sign

Caitlin Clark is at the Olympics, after all. At least her name is.

Facing Team USA during warm-ups Monday, a fan held up a sign saying, “You need Caitlin Clark to beat us.” The Americans played Japan. American player A’ja Wilson appeared to be amused.

The fan had a jersey split between the Nets and Lakers, so it’s difficult to know whether it’s shade coming from a Japanese fan or merely reflecting that Team WNBA beat Team USA during WNBA All-Star weekend on July 20.

Clark, the Indiana Fever rookie, had 4 points and 10 assists for the WNBA squad in that game. There has been a lot of conversation over whether she should have been picked for Team USA. She’s OK being on vacation.

Clark averages 17.1 points (most among rookies) and a league-leading 8.2 assists, as well as 5.8 rebounds and 32.7% 3-point shooting.
